It would not be a total surprise that Apple is asking developers to stop use white iPhone mockup to promote third-party apps on the web. Yet, we know Apple has always been a company that stresses the details. Everything down to the tiniest pixel is highly scrutinized to perfection.
Cupertino doesn’t like the idea of developers using white iPhones to show off their work in marketing materials. It’s a black iPhone or the highway.
TechCrunch founder Mike Arrington reports for Pando Daily:

The private written communications I’ve seen from Apple, though, are quite clear on the restriction. In verbal communications they’ve said that they’re reserving use of the white iPhone for their own marketing materials.

Apple clearly outlines the type of iOS promotional materials third-party developers can use, and the mockup examples show black iPhones only. Does that mean white iPhones are off limits?

Step By Step Tutorial to Setup A Spire Server Without iPhone 4S Keys With SiriServer

A few days ago we told you guys about a new project being developed with the help of @cale250 dubbed SiriServer that will actually replace the need for Siri to contact Apple’s server altogether. This is because instead of using Apple’s servers for the speech processing SiriServer uses Google Speech-To-Text API. While this is a great development because it takes away the need for iPhone 4S Authentication keys (you no longer need to have access to an iPhone 4S), it does mean that you are limited to commands that are shorter than 10 seconds. For those of you who were interested in setting up a server using SiriServer you will be glad to know that in this How To guide from iJailbreak.com you will learn how to setup SiriServer on a Linux computer or Linux virtual machine. This will allow you to use Siri on your older generation iOS Device thanks to the Spire Cydia tweak without the need of iPhone 4S authentication keys.
Note: Please keep in mind that SiriServer will work on Mac OS X, but in this tutorial we will be setting it up on Ubuntu (a form of Linux).
Setup SiriServer Ubuntu
Section A: Setting Up The Required Components
Step 1 Windows: For Windows users it should be fairly easy to get Ubuntu working on your computer (as there is numerous ways). Probably the easiest way to do this is to go to the Ubuntu download page by clicking here, and then simply following the instructions for dual-booting your computer with Ubuntu. You could of course also use a Virtual Machine (like virtualbox), or boot Ubuntu from a CD or USB drive.
Step 1 Mac OS X: For Mac OS X users your options of running Ubuntu are slightly more limited. You can either use a Virtual Machine (like virtualbox) or of course you can boot Ubuntu from a CD or USB drive by clicking here.
Step 2: Once you have found a way to get access to an Ubuntu computer you will need to launch terminal and type in the following command:
sudo apt-get install libspeex1 libflac8

Tip: If you do not want to type all of the terminal commands shown in this tutorial you can copy the command and paste it into terminal by right clicking and then clicking the paste option.
Step 3: Make sure you keep Terminal open, as we will come back to it soon, but you will now need to open the Ubuntu Software Center. Once the Ubuntu Software Center is up and running you will need to search for the following:
Python

When you see Python on the search results (it will be labeled interactive high-level object-orientated language (default version)) you will need to install it to your Ubuntu computer.

If you do not see an Install button, but rather a Remove button this means you already have Python install and can move on to step 4.
Step 4: Next you will need to install another package to your Ubuntu Computer, thus search for the following through the Ubuntu Software Center:
M2Crypto

When you see M2Crypto appear on the search results you will need to click it and install it your computer Ubuntu computer.

Step 5: We will now be exiting the Ubuntu Software Center and going back over to terminal. With Terminal resumed you will need to enter the following command:

Step 6: Once the command above has been executed you will need to enter the command shown below:
sudo easy_install biplist

Step 7: It is now time to download the SiriServer files. Go to the official SiriServer GitHub page and download the files as .zip file by clicking here.
Step 8: Extract the the file you just downloaded and rename the folder to:
siriserver

Step 9: Now go back to terminal and type in the following command to go into the Downloads directory:
cd ~/Downloads

Step 10: Next type in the command shown below to move the SiriServer files into your Ubuntu root directory:
sudo mv siriserver /

Note: It is recommend that you double check to see if your siriserver folder was indeed moved to the the Ubuntu root directory. To double check this open up a folder, go into the File System tab and you should see siriserver sitting there.

Section B: Generating Your Certificate
Step 11: The SiriServer files have now been placed in the correct directory. We have now setup all of the required components for SiriServer to work. Congratulations for getting this far! We will now start generating the certificate for your iOS Device to properly connect to the server you are creating. To do this the first thing you need to do is go into the proper directory:
cd /siriserver/gen_certs

Step 12: From here you will need to enter the command shown below. Keep in mind, however, that you will replace XXXXX with most likely an IP Address or in some cases a domain name (for more information click here).
./gen_certs.sh XXXXX
Example: ./gen_certs.sh 192.168.1.1
OR ./gen_certs.sh domain.com

Step 13: After you have entered the command shown above you will find a certificate file named ca.pem in the siriserver directory (the siriserver folder that you moved to the Ubuntu root directory). When you see the ca.pem file in the siriserver directory you will need to copy it to your desktop and email it to yourself.

Section C: Installing The Certificate
Step 14: Now you will need to grab your iOS Device, fire up your email client and click the ca.pem file you attached to your email.

Step 15: When you click the attachment you will need to click the Install button, read the warning screen, click the other Install button, and finally click the Done button.

Step 16: With the certificate now installed, you will need to go back into the Settings.app, into the Spire tab and you will need to enter the address of your server. This will be whatever you replaced XXXXX with in step 12.
Example: https://192.168.1.1
OR https://domain.com

Note: Keep in mind that you are using https not http.
Section D: Activating The Server
Step 17: Everything has now been configured, and the final step is to begin the server. To do this navigate to the siriserver directory by entering the following command:
cd /siriserver

Step 18: Finally you will need to enter that command that will turn the server on:
sudo python siriServer.py

Your server should now be up and running and you can try using Siri on your iOS Device. TMO News reports that T-Mobile USA will start offering its users who are using unlocked iPhones on their network additional support.

Though T-Mobile USA is the only US Carrier among the top 4 carrier not to offer Apple's iPhone, it had revealed last year that more than a million unlocked iPhones are used on their network.
Back in July 2011, T-Mobile USA started offering micro-SIM cards, which is required for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.
T-Mobile will begin offering the additional support from tomorrow, January 30th. According to the leaked document, the support will include common procedures, information about features and specifications, and other basic device questions.

The leaked document also lists down the following benefits for its 1 million plus users with unlocked iPhones:
*The customer benefits by making only one call.
*The employee benefits by having access to information needed to resolve these calls.
*The business benefits by lower call times and improved resolution.
Though 3G works for few lucky iPhone users on T-Mobile's network, earlier this month, T-Mobile USA's CEO Philipp Humm revealed that it had not managed to get iPhone due to its unique band technology. While most GSM operators use the 850, 900, 1900 or 2100 MHz frequencies, T-Mobile uses the 1700/2100 MHz AWS band for its 3G. Unfortunately that means that mobile phone manufacturers need to use a chipset that works with the AWS band.
T-Mobile Chief Technology Officer Neville Ray has revealed that Apple's next generation iPhone will support the AWS bands. It remains to be seen if Apple will finally offer the iPhone on T-Mobile USA's network this year.
But by offering additional support, T-Mobile seems to be at least gearing up for it

They say you can’t teach old dogs new tricks — but the same axiom apparently isn’t true for the wood burning camp stove — the oldest camping gear dog of all. Like any other timber burnin’ stove, the BioLite CampStove is great for cooking, since there’s no risk of fire-starting chemicals flavoring your grub.

Lugging fuel isn’t an issue either, as long as pellets, sticks, pine cones, or other random flammable biomass are lying about. Unlike every other stove out there, however, the Biolite can convert heat energy from the fire into electric power for charging gadgets via USB.
How much power is generated isn’t directly shared, but BioLite says charge rates are similar to a laptop USB port. The complete kit also weighs a feathery 2 lbs and can pack down to 8.25 x 5″ (which is roughly the size of a Nalgene), making it suitable even for ultralight backpacking.

A major bug was found in the new iMessage on iOS 5 that several users reported that their iMessage accounts continued to remain active after wiping their devices. Apple finally gave a a statement to the public: there is no iMessage bug.
Gizmodo added fuel to the fire yesterday when it published several images of strange iMessage conversations it was receiving on an iPhone after visiting an Apple Store for tech support. Apparently, when a Genius inserted his personal SIM card into the phone to test the device, the handset locked on to his iMessage account…
After months of silence regarding the so-called iMessage bug, Apple gave a statement to The Loop this morning claiming that what happened with Gizmodo’s iPhone isn’t the result of a bug. It was simply an employee error.
“This was an extremely rare situation that occurred when a retail employee did not follow the correct service procedure and used their personal SIM to help a customer who did not have a working SIM,” Apple representative Natalie Harrison told The Loop. “This resulted in a temporary situation that has since been resolved by the employee.”

So how do you keep this from happening to you? Well for starters, you might think twice before dropping your SIM card into another device. But if you must do it, make sure you toggle the device’s iMessage switch off and then on again once the original SIM card is re-inserted. The Loop says that doing this will unregister your iMessage account with the device.
You can find the switch by going into your device’s Settings app, and tapping on the Messages tab. Since Apple doesn’t see this as an actual “bug,” we may never see an official fix for this. So it might be a good idea to remember this tip.

Today, speculation about a February Apple event cooled some when the Loop's Jim Dalrymple reported that his credible sources indicate that no formal announcement or corresponding media event will take place this month. Dalrymple's report is gaining no shortage of attention in light of the fact that he is a highly respected source for Apple news and information.
"This is not going to happen, according to my sources," Dalrymple said today, in a blunt and unequivocal fashion. "Apple will not hold an event in February, unusual or otherwise. That’s it."
Dalrymple's reference to an "unusual" event comes in response to earlier and unsubstantiated reports this week out of Japan suggesting that Apple would hold an 'unusual' event in February to herald the arrival of the iPad 3. Although Dalrymple didn't rule out the still-looming possibility of a March iPad 3 release, he said nothing of the prospect today.

I just found a nice looked 3D action game. In the game, you have to hold your girl all they way, run, shoot all the monsters and always keep on the roofs.
According to the developer, almost everything except the music is all created by one man. That is a amazing!
"As always, I've been creating nearly everything on my own (Graphics & Design, Digital Painting, Modelling, Animation, Sound Effects and Programming).
The game features full scene realtime bumped specular reflections (even Infinity Blade doesn't have that, the background there is always static baked lightmap stuff) - and running with 30 fps even on iPad 1.
Gameplay will be an intuitive 3D runner experience with tilt controls for left/right, left tap for jump, right tap for shooting. Or vice versa, if you change the setting

iMessage was one of the key improvements in the firmware update, allowing iDevices users to communicate for free in an SMS-like infrastructure – much like BlackBerry Messenger and WhatsApp have been doing for a number of years. Providing there is a Wi-Fi or cellular connection available, messages can readily be sent back and forth, with color coordination used to differentiate between a normal message, and an iMessage.
Now though, critical error in iMessage’s make-up has now been glaringly uncovered, courtesy of Gizmodo. The bug apparently reveals iMessage to be in contact with an inserted SIM card, and even after the SIM is removed, iMessage conversations from said SIM can still be read.
The story goes; a young boy visited an Apple Store to get his iPhone looked in to, and one of the branch’s employees took the device out to the back, returning with an apparently repaired iPhone. However, at some stage whilst in the back room, the Apple staffer named "Wiz" had inserted his own SIM in, which for the benefit of testing, wouldn’t normally pose a problem – after all, remove the SIM, and it’s like it was never there, right?

Well, not exactly, no. This boy began to receive a number of Wiz’s iMessages over the following days, whilst the Apple employee was unwittingly sharing his private correspondence with a customer.
The story seems to confirm that iMessage checks any inserted SIM when initializing iMessage. Whilst most of us don’t readily swap SIM cards in the manner of which, say, an Apple employee does, it’s certainly discomforting to know that we could pass devices on to friends, family members, or via eBay, and our private messages could still be transferred to that device.

Young and others had been in discussions with Apple about improved digital music file formats, ways to download the much larger files that would result, and creating devices that would play the high-def files. Digital music is currently "packaged" in either AAC or MP3 formats, which create small, easy distributed files, but also lose a lot of the nuances that are found in masters or live performances. High-def music files would be much larger than those currently in distribution, so downloading and storage would require more resources.
Jobs was a rabid music fan his entire life and arguably had more impact on the digital music industry than any other executive. According to Young, however, "When he (Jobs) went home, he listened to vinyl." Young believes that without Steve's passion for music, Apple as a company has lost any ambition it may have had to rally behind high-def music.
Musicians and recording industry execs might both get behind high-def music, since it would allow the industry to sell a higher-quality product at a premium price. Whether or not Apple will be at the forefront of the move to high-def music is up to the current executive team.

Earlier today, few new photos surfaced online to suggest that Apple's next iPod nano might be freshly redesigned - with a built-in camera. Few hours later after the report surfaced, China-based M.I.C. Gadget verified the prototype with its Chinese factory source, however, there are problems with its camera.
M.I.C. Gadget:
According to our factory sources, Apple have problems with the lens aperture for the next-gen iPod nano, the iris is not functioning correctly to allow the advantages of the low aperture to be utilized. Every shot was overexposed. Apple intends to correct its mistake, but the problem still exists in this prototype that is manufactured two months ago. What's more, a 2-megapixel camera was tested, but it was unsatisfactory - the photos look washed-out and flat. The good news is… this 2-month-old prototype is close to final product, the UI is done.
Its thought that the new iPod Nano will be released with camera in the first or second quarter of 2012.

Have you been this before, envn you speak English, but siri just can't understand your meanning, although many American iPhone 4S users have found a great slave/friend in Siri, Apple has yet to sort out the language barriers for users all over the world.

Even in English-speaking countries, Siri often struggles with certain accents and dialects, leaving many users frustrated, and in some cases, incensed. Perhaps never more clearly has this frustration been depicted than in this rather entertaining mock advertisement for Siri from Apple Scotland.
A brash Scotsman conforms to various stereotypes in a sketch in which he gets into an argument with Siri, which after a short amount of berating, winds up with the iPhone being smashed against a wall – a position we often find ourselves contemplating from time to time.
As funny as this video may be (particularly for an Englishman like myself), it does highlight a more serious debate.
Why, having spent a great deal of time making its name as a source of premium, polished products, did Apple release (and advertise) iPhone 4S and Siri worldwide, knowing most areas outside the US would not be able to use it?
Currently, many non-English speaking countries cannot use Siri, and even those who can speak the lingo find themselves met with a rather annoying accent barrier. At this point in time, to enjoy full functionality of Siri, many have to put on an American accent, which does takes some of the shine off a product which has otherwise been significant.
But I digress, this isn’t the first time Siri has been unwittingly drafted in to a heated debate, and we doubt it’ll be the last. Not so long ago, a parody of Siri getting caught in the middle of a domestic argument was brought to our attention, and there’s certainly a perverse pleasure in seeing technology out-wit humanity.

The photos below show data from a development and debug tool called iBoot.
"For starters, the model numbers are J1 and J2 (iPad3,1 and iPad3,2), and while DigiTimes reported this a few weeks ago, these two models are not different devices, just a single iPad available in two versions - one with Wi-Fi only and one with Wi-Fi and embedded GSM/CDMA/LTE for all carriers. Also included in the photos is, for the first time, confirmation of which processor Apple will be using in the iPad 3: an A6 processor with model number S5L8945X. For reference, the Apple A4 model was S5L8930X and the A5 is S5L8940X. They popularized them to such an extent that Google smartly, swiftly switched gears from making Android BlackBerry-like to iPhone-inspired. RIM dabbled in that form factor as well, with the near disastrous Storm line, and now the expanded Torch line.
But to lead with it into the new generation of BlackBerrys, and now, some 5 years later? (And yes, once again, I informed you thusly.)
A big part of me hopes not. I’m tired of iPhone clones. Sure, Samsung has proven that the closer you are to copying Apple without being Apple, the more money you make in the not-Apple market (just look at Motorola and HTC profits by way of comparison), but Apple didn’t get to where they are — sitting on one of the largest bankrolls in history — by copying the BlackBerry or Treo back in 2007.
They looked at the market. They saw a problem with existing offerings. They tried to solve it with something new. RIM has had 5 years since then — 5 years to study Apple, look for the iPhone’s weaknesses, and figure out how to take then next great leap forward. To figure out how to do to Apple what Apple did to Palm and RIM.
They wasted a lot of that on the Storm and Torch and PlayBook. Hopefully they’re not wasting one precious moment of it now.
I want BlackBerry back. I want them putting pressure on Google and Apple. I want more great phones to choose from. I don’t want Jonathan Ive to be the lead designer-by-proxy of yet another me-too phone line.
Delight me RIM. Surprise me. You’ve got a new CEO. He has great contacts. I’m holding out hope for you.

Microsoft was forced to pay the state nearly 80 million dollars in order to settle claims that the software giant had cheated consumers into overpaying for software purchases. Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft has issued vouchers to state schools, with $3.4 million being earmarked for Madison.

The school district will use the money to purchase 600 iPads for $479 each, for use in schools this spring. There are plans to purchase another 800 iPads on top of that for use in classrooms by next fall, which will be a great learning tool for students.
With the classroom iPads, students will be able to wirelessly share classroom work with one another, and replace workbooks and textbooks with apps from the Apple App Store. Madison will not be the only county implementing the iPads, and other counties in the state have begun to experiment with the tablets too.
“This is the most significant transition point for having digital learning at the optimal level,” said Bill Smojver, the district’s director of technical services. iPads are cheaper and more portable than traditional desktop computers, and according to a recent demonstration in Chicago Public Schools, students are more engaged in classrooms using tablets.
While the district is considering replacing traditional textbooks with iPad versions following Apple’s recent iBooks 2 announcement, it will produced cautiously with the decision. iPads will be used in a variety of ways. One school, receiving 105 iPads will give each student in four classrooms access to a tablet, while another school will be using them for teacher planning and record keeping.
Pending school board approval, the iPads will debut in 20 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, and three high schools by mid-March of 2012.

Today, a calendar app made in honor of Steve Jobs gets available on the Cydia Store. It's named as "Tribute Calendar", however the interesting is that Apple has rejected this app to launch in the Apple Store days ago, that's why you see it in Cydia right now.
Back at the beginning of the month, Apple rejected a Steve Jobs tribute calendar application, noting that apps made in honor of the late Apple co-founder and former CEO were not being accepted by the company. Now, the application’s developer has chosen to make the app (which is called “Tribute Calendar”) available via the Cydia Store, where it can be downloaded for free.
According to the application’s developer:
"We are really happy (& proud) to announce that ‘Tribute Calendar’ is launched with Cydia Store.
We have kept our promise to release the App free (as well Ad Free), it will remain Free for lifetime."
Though Steve Jobs wasn’t exactly a fan of jailbreaking, it’s nice Apple fans can download the application in an ad-free form free of charge, providing they have a jailbroken iOS device. However, the app’s developer added:

How to Setup A Siri Server Without iPhone 4S Keys

Summary : In the past we showed you how to setup a Siri Proxy Server. The only problem is it requires you to have iPhone 4S keys (meaning you will need access to an iPhone 4S). This is a roadblock for who wants to use Spire on older devices. However, an new report just reveals that a new type of server has been developed, dubbed SiriServer that will actually replace the need for Siri to contact Apple’s server altogether.

In the past we showed you how to setup a Siri Proxy Server that would act as the middle-man when your Siri communicates with Apple’s servers. The only problem with setting up a Siri proxy server is that it requires you to have iPhone 4S keys (meaning you will need access to an iPhone 4S). For a lot of people this defeated the purpose of even trying to setup a Siri Proxy server to use with their older generation iOS devices via the Spire Cydia tweak.
Now, however, thanks to a tweet by developer @cale250 a new type of server has been developed, dubbed SiriServer that will actually replace the need for Siri to contact Apple’s server altogether.

This means that you will no longer need to worry about grabbing iPhone 4S keys as Siri will now use Google Speech-To-Text API. While this is some good news that someone has developed an alternative method of redirecting voice input from Siri to servers other than Apples. It does mean that you are limited to commands that are shorter than 10 seconds. The developer notes that he may be able to overcome this, but at this time this limitation is here to stay.

Angry Birds is already available for all the clines, like iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7 even Google Chrome, now Rovio has announced the bird and pig war will be coming to a social network Facebook as well.
Those who need their Angry Birds fix but don’t have immediate access to one of the millions of other devices that support it, can hop on over to Facebook from Valentines Day onwards, with February 14th being both the day of love and the day of avian war at the same time!

The game’s creators, Rovio, are currently keeping their cards very much lose to their chest, but what we do know is that the pigs will be more heavily involved in the game this time around. We don’t quite know how Rovio plans on making that work, but were sure it will be super popular regardless.
We’re also looking forward to seeing what kinds of social features Rovio will be bringing to Angry Birds. With Facebook underpinning the whole thing we’re hoping to see some sort of social interaction the likes of which just are not possible on other platforms. We’ll see come February 14th, no doubt.
Rovio CEO Mikael Hed has already said that the game will feature new aspects and a more collaborative feel to it, which will be music to the ears of those who have already played Angry Birds to death over the last year or so. Rovio will need to come up with something other than just being able to check on your friends’ high scores if Angry Birds for Facebook is to be as big of a success as its predecessors have been.

Facebook gaming is already big business, with Zynga making plenty of money already creating games that live on Facebook’s social platform. It was surely only a matter of time before Rovio brought those Angry Birds to the party too, but we can’t help but feel disappointed to see our beloved pigs move on over to Facebook.

"Clear is a to-do list app, and it looks to fill a much-needed hole on the App Store, in my opinion. Indeed, despite there being tremendous innovation in app development, I feel this is one area that app developers haven’t really nailed. For whatever reason, I’ve yet to fall in love with any tasking app I’ve tried. But it looks like Clear has a fair shot at being the very thing I’m looking for.
As said before, there’s little information on the app yet. Just a teaser trailer to go by. But I like what I see. First off, Clear has a very clean, color-themed interface. The minimalist approach appears to make entering and sorting through tasks effortless. The teaser shows a guy in a coffee shop, browsing through tasks like “buy groceries” and “pick up dry cleaning.” Each task is represented by different shades of orange. Users can create a new task by expanding space in between tasks, allowing quick organization. Simply tapping on a task allows users to edit it, while swiping one turns it the color green, marking it as completed and thereby deleting it.
Most of the video shows the guy entering new tasks and deleting old ones, but it also offers a quick glimpse of what appears to be a category system. The actor in the video has a setup including a “Things to Do,” “Shopping List” and “Movies to Watch.” So, even though the app appears to be minimalist in its design, Realmac Software hasn’t left out important functionality like this."

AssistantExtensions, and SiriToggles show us Siri could be more smart than we thought on a jailbroken device, but the uncoming Cydia tweak MySiri seems can do more.
Indeed, MySiri — an upcoming Siri tweak — promises to add a ridiculous amount of end-user control to the Siri interface.
Co-developers Andrea Oliva & Akhil Tolani provided us with a sneak peak of the upcoming tweak. Check inside as we give it the full video preview…
MySiri includes the ability to execute Activator actions using your voice, create your own conversations, enable or disable toggles, perform commands like respring, restart, reboot, and create your own custom background.
The nice thing about MySiri is that virtually every aspect is customizable in a sense that you can create your own predefined voice commands.
Of course the tweak is still in development, and I wasn’t personally able to have success with all facets. The good news is that by the time it is released, all aspects should be working seamlessly.
If your iPhone 4S is jailbroken, or you’re running Spire on your pre-4S device, then MySiri should definitely be on your radar. It’ll be available for $0.99 on the BigBoss repo once released.

Dragon Island has you exploring a huge world, battling and collecting over 200 different species of monsters. Each one can be evolved several times, and you can even collect recipes which will allow you to combine two different creatures to create a new hybrid version. Also, you'll be able to battle bosses and claim their spirits in order to summon them in future battles.

Another interesting feature is that there are no healing spells or items in the game. You can return to the main town hub to heal, but if you're out in battle and one of your creatures dies, then they're gone for good. I kind of like this as it adds an element of suspense and risk, and should affect how you go about tackling battles and completing the many dungeons in the game.

To balance this, even though you can only battle with 3 monsters at a time, you'll be able to bring more than that with you as you play. So if you do end up losing one, another monster from your queue will take its place. As you level up in the game, you'll gain the ability to carry more and more monsters with you.
The world which you can explore in Dragon Island is massive, with tons of points of interest to discover. These include towns, forests, random battles, and dungeons. When you come upon a dungeon, it is randomly generated and turns the game into more of a rogue-like, and there will be one infinite dungeon where you can grind and discover monsters and items, as well as compete on a leaderboard for how many floors you can descend.
Finally, the battle system will be a traditional 3-on-3 turn-based affair. Each monster can have up to 4 skills, each assigned a special swipe gesture. Although your character doesn't get involved in battles himself, you can still level him up as you would in a normal RPG, and then his stats will extend to the monsters under his control. In this way you can influence how you will play the game despite the massive number of different monsters in the game which are actually the ones doing battle.

A new report reveals that Apple seems is working on implementing NFC capabilities into the next iPhone and for payment processing, Apple is connecting with MasterCard and Visa.
9to5Mac spoke to a well-connected developer at MacWorld who is building a NFC app for the iPhone. When asked why he would do that given the limited NFC support for the device, the developer told the site that he had no hardware knowledge, but he had spoken to Apple iOS engineers on multiple occasions, and they are "heavy into NFC."
When asked how confident he was, the developer said, "Enough to bet the app development on."
Late last week Ed McLaughlin, the head of emerging payments at Mastercard, made some interesting comments about NFC/Paypass to Fortune Company:
"The timeline is always as rapid as it makes sense for consumers," he says. "That's a combination of having a critical mass of the merchants, which is what you're seeing right now, and getting devices into the hands of consumers. I don't know of a handset manufacturer that isn't in process of making sure their stuff is PayPass ready."
So that would include Apple then?
"Um, there are...like I say, [I don't know of] any handset maker out there," McLaughlin says. "Now, when we have discussions with our partners, and they ask us not to disclose them, we don't."
Interestingly, a Visa representative did confirm to Fortune Company that they have talked to Apple about their PayWave system.
"I can't tell you when Apple is going to put NFC in the next version of the iPhone," Bill Gajda, the Global Head of Mobile Product said, "but we've had discussions with them around the PayWave standard and they've asked to look at our specification and certification process so that when they decide to do something those lines of communication are open."

Their is not a explain for that bugs, but to fix this problem, you can just simply download iWipe Cache from Cydia, and run the app. According to the app description, iWipe Cache allows you to:

Clear your SpringBoard Cache to ensure all images from any theme will work with WinterBoard. Due to Winterboard being very out of date, It does not clear springboard cache. This app will clear your cache, allowing new masks and overlays to be applied to Icons.

As you can see, iWipe Cache was apparently developed to fix WinterBoard problems, but since it I don’t have WinterBoard installed on my iPhone 4S, I know for sure my blank icons issues aren’t due to this app.
Additionally, it seems that doing a respring temporarily fixes the problem. Respringing hasn’t proven very effective in my case, which is why I recommend the iWipe Cache option, over a simple respring.

This is a nice Notification Center widget that lets you make calls.
You have an iPhone, but where's the Phone? Is it on your home page, your second page, your third page? Is it on your dock? I don't know! Well now, you never have to not know again. If you need to make a call but you find that looking for your Phone application is a pain in the rear, then you'll appreciate this new jailbreak widget for Notification Center that allows you to make phone calls but sliding down Notification Center, entering a phone number, and tapping the call button. This widget is free and has been dubbed TelOnNotification by iOS developer timetravel0.
The widget has a decent looking GUI (graphical user interface). There have been a lot of widgets that are completely atrocious compared to the way that we might expect Apple to implement a widget. This one keeps it nice and simple and best of all, it's small. It doesn't take up a ton of room. Before you actually start typing in a phone number to dial, the widget looks as it does in the screenshot below:

After you tap on that bar that says, "Telephone number to call" the iOS number pad appears with a call button in the bottom left. The number pad is demonstrated by the first image in this review. It looks very eye-candy-ish and I'm sure that a lot of people if not most would like to add this widget to their collection for iOS 5's Notification Center.
There are some prerequisites to using it. For example, you cannot dismiss the number pad easily when you are in Notification Center. You have to press the home button, which exits Notification Center completely, just to put the number pad away. So this means that you shouldn't tap on the widget unless you really want to make a call otherwise that number pad will get in the way of you viewing your other widgets. Another thing is that you need to know someone's phone number by heart, otherwise you won't be able to call them. This widget doesn't support address book integration, so you can't go through your Contacts application and pick a contact that you've added in the past to call.
Do those prerequisites make it useless? Absolutely not. It's still a quick way to dial a phone number if you don't want to fumble around for your Phone application. You will need to be running iOS 5 to download this widget because it depends on Notification Center to function. You can enable the widget or disable it at any time by simply dragging it in and out of Notification Center in the Settings application under 'settings>notifications>in notification center'. I think this is a nice thing to have if you're an iPhone power-user like me.

The report recalls the two explosions at iPad factories last year that killed four people and 77 workers injured. Another former Apple executive claimed that Apple knew about the labor abuses in China for four years, but the company still choose to go on. These reports clearly hit Tim Cook’s sensitive nerve and he has responded the issue. Before Cook was promoted to become chief operating officer in 2004, Cook is credited with restructuring Apple’s manufacturing operations, completely farm out the work to third-party manufacturers and created the supply chain in China. This could explain why Cook has to clarify immediately on the mistreatment of factory workers. Here are the key points of his reply email:

“Any accident is deeply troubling, and any issue with working conditions is cause for concern. Any suggestion that we don’t care is patently false and offensive to us”
“Every year we inspect more factories, raising the bar for our partners and going deeper into the supply chain. We’ve made a great deal of progress and improved conditions for hundreds of thousands of workers … We will continue to dig deeper, and we will undoubtedly find more issues …”
“We are focused on educating workers about their rights, so they are empowered to speak up when they see unsafe conditions or unfair treatment …”
“We know of no one in our industry doing as much as we are, in as many places, touching as many people … What we will not do — and never have done — is stand still or turn a blind eye to problems in our supply chain. On this you have my word.”
To advertise the commitment to worker safety, Apple has already launched a “Supplier Responsibility” page on its website early this month, which details the actions it takes towards ensuring good working conditions and environmentally-friendly production practices. Apple has also opened its doors to the Fair Labor Association for evaluations. Interestingly, Apple is the first tech company the association has ever monitored because it specializes in clothing and textile manufacturers. Right now, Apple has to go into their suppliers’ factories, which mostly own by Foxconn and make changes.

It would seem that sharing profits with suppliers could be one way in which Apple could improve the working conditions in China. But this voluntary step would fly against market dynamics and there is no guarantee that suppliers would pass the benefits onto the workers. What incentive does Foxconn have to improve standards if they know full well that Apple’s entire business model relies on them ? The problem is not easy to solve. Apple is just as much to blame as the Chinese factories on labor abuses.

Disclaimer: Any opening repairing is with risk, and it's also worth considering that opening up your device to perform any repair or modification can and will void your Apple warranty. If you don’t feel comfortable opening your device, don’t. Use extreme care and caution when performing a repair on any device.
What you need for a DIY GSM iPhone 4 screen replacement
PXLFIX recommends using only quality and genuine parts from a reputable supplier like eTech Parts. They have quality parts, tools, and much more for all your repair needs.

GSM iPhone 4 (please note there ARE internal differences between the GSM and CDMA models)
New GSM iPhone 4 LCD & digitizer assembly
SIM removal tool (or a paper clip)
#00 Phillips screwdriver
Pry tool or spudger (you may need a handheld razor blade as well)
Security screwdriver (only if your iPhone has 5-point security screws in the dock connector)

Power off your iPhone 4

Before performing any repair, always power off your device before removing any screws or parts.
Remove the back

1. First remove the bottom 2 dock connector screws in your iPhone 4. Use either your #00 screwdriver or the five point depending on whether or not your iPhone 4 has security screws in the dock connector. Almost all newer devices will have security screws.

2. To remove the back simply slide the back upwards and lift it off gently.
3. Set the back and 2 dock connector screws aside.
Remove your SIM card
Use a SIM removal tool or a paperclip to remove your SIM card and tray. Set them aside.
Remove the battery

    1. To remove the battery you’ll need to remove the #00 screw holding the battery clip in place. Remove this screw located to the bottom left of the battery.

    2. The metal clip on the battery is what clips the battery to the logic board. You’ll need to pop this clip up with your plastic pry tool. Simply stick the end of your pry tool underneath the clip and gently pull upwards until it unfastens from the logic board.

    3. To remove the battery, I do not recommend using the plastic pull tab. There is quite a bit of adhesive underneath the battery and the tab will normally just rip off or you can bend the battery. Instead, run your pry tool along the right side of the battery and break the adhesive that way. Once the battery is free from the adhesive, you can pull the battery out of the phone. There are no other connectors holding it in.

    4. You will notice a tiny grounding clip sitting underneath where you unscrewed the battery. Set this aside for replacement during reassembly. This is a grounding clip for your antenna. Make sure you put it back in place before reconnecting your battery.
Remove the dock connector shield and disconnect the cable

    1. There is a shield held on with two screws covering the dock connector cable. Remove the two screws holding it in place and set the shield and screws aside, remembering where they came from.

    2. Next, use your pry tool to pry up the actual dock connector cable. Be careful as there is adhesive holding the cable in place as well. Peel back the adhesive gently to free the cable.
Remove the top logic board shield

    There are 5 screws holding the logic board shield in place. Remove the 5 screws holding it in place. Just be sure to remember which holes they came out of as the screws are different sizes. I always keep them in order of how they came out.

    Next you’ll need to remove the shield. There is a tiny clip built into the shield holding it in place. (Refer to the photo above.) Pop it up with your pry tool and you should be able to slide the shield up fairly easily. Just take care not to bend it or break off a clip.
Disconnect the 6 cables from the top of the logic board

    There is only one connector holding the camera to the logic board. Remove this cable in the picture above using your pry tool. Gently lift upwards and it will pop right off.

    Next gently lift the camera out of the device. You’ll notice there is a tiny tab that is seated underneath the LCD and digitizer cables to the right.

    Next pop up the LCD and digitizer cables to the right of where the camera cable was connected. You pop them up in the same direction.

    The 3 cables further to the right will need to be disconnected as well. They pop up in the opposite direction.
Remove the logic board

    Start with the 2 screws holding the logic board down in the middle and at the bottom left. Both use your #00 Phillips screwdriver. They are the same size. The one on the right of the logic board in the middle of the device has a water sensor over it you’ll need to remove.
    The second screw is located where the logic board meets the speaker assembly towards the bottom left of the device.

    The third and final screw holding the logic board in is located at the top of the logic board off to the right. It is the only cross-head screw in your device. Use a small flathead screwdriver to carefully remove it.

    You should now be able to remove your logic board. Holding it at the bottom, gently pull it upwards. I use my other hand to lift up at the top where the rear facing camera used to be.
    Take note that there is a small rubber piece that sits at the top of the logic board. You will need this for re-assembly so make sure it doesn’t fall off. If you lose this, you could see reception issues.
Remove the speaker assembly

    1. To remove the speaker assembly you have one more #00 screw to remove. It sits to the right of the speaker assembly in the bottom right hand corner of your device. Remove it.
    2. The second screw holding the speaker assembly into your iPhone you’ve already removed when you removed the logic board.
    3. Gently lift the speaker assembly out of your device and set it aside.
Remove the vibrator assembly

    Locate your vibrator assembly in the upper right hand corner of your iPhone 4 (assuming you’re looking at it from the back).

    It is held in with two screws. Use your #00 Phillips screwdriver and remove them. The screw on the left will be significantly longer. Just remember which screw came from where.

    Next, gently lift the vibrator assembly out of the device.
Remove the 4 screws in each corner

There are 10 total screws that attach your iPhone 4 LCD/Digitizer assembly to your frame. The 4 in the corners will need to be completely removed. They are all #00 screws.
Loosen the remaining 6 screws

These screws run along the sides of your iPhone and also have washers on them. I find it best to just loosen them opposed to removing them completely. The washers are not fun to put back in. Loosening them will allow you to remove the LCD/Digitizer assembly just as easily. About 2 1/2 to 3 turns for each screw should loosen them up enough to continue. If you feel the washer wobbling back and forth a bit, you’ve loosened it enough.
Remove the broken LCD & digitizer assembly from your iPhone
This is where it can get a bit tricky. Your screen is held in not only with the 10 screws mentioned above but also with strong adhesive. You will need to break this adhesive in order to remove the front panel.

    Hold your iPhone in one hand with the screen facing you. Starting in the top left hand corner, run a pry tool or razor blade in between the frame and front panel. You’ll need to pry up quite a bit in order to break the adhesive. Be careful around the front facing camera and speaker area.

    Next move your pry tool or razor blade to the bottom of your device and do the same thing, working your way around until the adhesive is broken and the front panel starts to come off. If your screen is cracked, additional glass may break off. That’s perfectly normal.

    To completely remove the front panel – start at the top of your iPhone and gently pull the assembly away from the frame. Be careful to allow the LCD and digitizer cables to slip through the opening in the frame without getting caught up.
Remove any left over glass or debris from the frame
Before reassembling your iPhone, you’ll need to make sure there is no glass stuck to the remaining adhesive or inside the frame. If there is it could cause damage to the new screen or you’ll be able to see it through the new assembly, which can be annoying. Just make sure you do a thorough job of picking off all the glass on and around the frame before continuing to reassembly.

If you have been following the jailbreak scene, then you must know what Corona is. For those who don’t, Corona is the tool that lets you untethered jailbreak your iOS device (A4 only) on iOS 5.0.1. Pod2g is the hacker who worked on the Corona Untether and now he’s given an update on the case of the iBooks error. Corona 5.0.1 version 1.0-5 was released sometime back to fix the iBooks crash issue, but users even after applying the update have faced problems with iBooks. Certain users have been facing problems with digital rights management technology (DRM) protected content, wherein images and text tend to disappear.
Not to worry folks, because @planetbeing is at it again and according to @pod2g’s latest tweet, the Corona 1.0.6 update with the iBooks DRM content fix should be released soon.

CultofMac notes that Cisco, a large enterprise computing company, not only owned the iPhone trademark for years before Apple. It also owned the IOS trademark before Apple began using it. So how was Apple able to use these marks?
Lashinsky tells the story of how Steve Jobs had his way with Charles Giancarlo, a Cisco executive at the time:

Giancarlo fielded a call directly from Steve Jobs. "Steve called in and said that he wanted it," Giancarlo recalled. "He didn't offer us anything for it. It was just like a promise he'd be our best friend. And we said, 'No, we're planning on using it.' " Shortly after that, Apple's legal department called to say they thought Cisco had "abandoned the brand," meaning that in Apple's legal opinion Cisco hadn't adequately defended its intellectual property rights by promoting the name. To Apple's way of thinking this meant the name iPhone was available for Apple's use. Giancarlo, who subsequently joined the prominent Silicon Valley private-equity firm Silver Lake Partners, said Cisco threatened litigation before the launch. Then, the day after Apple announced its iPhone, Cisco filed suit.
The negotiation displayed some classic Steve Jobs negotiating tactics. Giancarlo said Jobs called him at home at dinnertime on Valentine's Day, as the two sides were haggling. Jobs talked for a while, Giancarlo related. "And then he said to me, 'Can you get email at home?' " Giancarlo was taken aback. This was 2007, after all, when broadband Internet was ubiquitous in homes in the US, let alone that of a Silicon Valley executive who had worked for years on advanced Internet technology. "And he's asking me if I'm able to get email at home. You know he's just trying to press my buttons-in the nicest possible way." Cisco gave up the fight shortly after that. The two sides reached a vague agreement to cooperate on areas of mutual interest.

iWatch2 packs many of the same features as its predecessor, and with FaceTime now beginning to pick up pace, it also includes a front-facing camera. Much like the transition from the original iPad to the iPad 2, the more significant changes are those seen immediately upon opening the box.
Described by its creator as being “like a jewel,” it comes packaged in a black, slide-to-open-box, and is significantly thinner than the original iWatch. The main body of the device consists of polycarbonate, and features an aluminum chassis, making the entire design look that tad bit classier.

1. Integration of left and right button mouse

Apple's obsession with a one-button mouse dates all the way back to the 1983 release of the Lisa, the company's first PC to ship with a mouse.
According to Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs, the late Apple co-founder insisted on a one-button mouse for simplicity's sake. The three-button mouse Apple saw Xerox demonstrate was too busy and confusing, Jobs argued.
Jobs was so insistent that people use the mouse, that he designed the Macintosh without arrow keys. But as with the arrow keys, Apple eventually relented on right clicking.
With the proliferation of Microsoft Windows, which embraced the right click, Apple eventually enabled users to CTRL-click to simulate a right click. It then began to support right-click mice with Mac OS 8, which debuted in 1997. And with the 2005 introduction of the "Mighty Mouse," Apple finally made a mouse with a programmable button that could be used for right clicking.
Still, Apple hasn't fully embraced the right-click. Its new "magic mouse" is capable of right clicking, though users have to program the mouse to do so. The company even jokes that that the feature is available "if you're coming from a right-click world."
2. Apple icon key

Like the one-button mouse, the Apple key was a unique Apple feature that gave many former Windows users fits.
The Apple key first appeared on the Apple III, and eventually made its way to the Apple Lisa and future Apple II PCs (which far outlived the ill-fated Apple III). The Apple key actually did not appear on the original Mac's keyboard, but eventually made it there after Steve Jobs' departure in 1986.
It served as a command key that had much the same function of the "control" key on a Microsoft Windows keyboard. To copy text, for instance, the Mac keyboard shortcut was Apple-C, while the shortcut was CTRL-C for Windows.
Confusing matters, Apple's keyboards also featured a control key. That meant any Windows user that had to switch between a Windows program and an Apple program on a Mac forced the user to switch between the Command key and the CTRL key constantly.
Apple ultimately killed off the Apple key in 2007, replacing the Apple logo with the word "command." Still, the functionality remained, and Windows users remain in muscle memory hell.
3. Disk drive

Apple has effectively killed off two disk drive formats, and may well be on its way to eliminating disk drives altogether.
In the early 1980s, the company supported the predominant floppy disk format of the time, selling "Disk II" 5-1/4-inch disk drives for the Apple II system.
But with the 1984 release of the Macintosh, Apple did away with 5-1/4 drives, opting to build a 3-1/2-inch drive into the Mac. The technology was extremely new at the time, introduced just over a year before the Mac went on sale.
That made the Macintosh among the first PCs to even feature a 3-1/2 inch disk drive, let alone have it be the only disk drive built into the computer. But the bet was right, and within a few years, the computer industry embraced the 3-1/2 inch drive as the new standard.
But Apple wasn't done shaking things up. With the 1998 release of the iMac, Apple got rid of the floppy disk drive entirely, featuring only a re-writable CD drive. It was a controversial decision, but one that, as before, was mimicked by all of Apple's competitors.
A decade later, Apple released a PC with no disk drive at all in the MacBook Air. Unsurprisingly, rivals are once again copycatting Apple's leap of faith, releasing "Ultrabooks" that feature no disk drive.
4. With Adobe Flash naysayers

Perhaps Apple's most epic fit of stubbornness was its very public battle with Adobe Flash, the add-on browser extension that allows rich content like video and games to be viewed.
In April 2010, Steve Jobs ranted about Flash on Apple's website, saying the software is "closed and proprietary, has major technical drawbacks, and doesn't support touch-based devices." He said iPhones and iPads would never support Flash because "new open standards created in the mobile era, such as HTML5, will win on mobile devices (and PCs too)."
Jobs suggested that Adobe focus on creating HTML5 tools instead of Flash.
A year and a half later, Adobe implicitly admitted that Jobs was right by abandoning its Flash software for mobile devices. Adobe moved away from its 15-year-old technology to instead embrace a universal standard for displaying rich media on the Web -- HTML5.
5. Using non-Intel chips

Apple's "road-less-traveled-by" approach didn't always pan out. One of Apple's biggest strategic blunders of all time was its failure to embrace the Intel architecture for its PC chipsets.
Apple chose Motorola's chips early on for cost considerations. But even when it was apparent that Intel, through its Windows partnership, was emerging as the standard PC chip architecture, Apple stuck to its guns.
Apple eventually formed an alliance with Motorola and IBM in 1991, which resulted in the inclusion of PowerPC processors in Apple computers for 15 years. Apple boasted that PowerPCs were faster than Intel's, but that never resulted in any significant sales increase.
That decision also meant that for decades, there was far less software being written for Apple's PCs, since software developers had to write the software for two different chip architectures. Apple computers also had to emulate Windows, since they couldn't run Microsoft's OS natively.
6. Menu selections

For nearly three decades, Macintosh windows were topped with a menu bar, whether a program was open or not.
For half that time, to select something in a Macintosh menu, a user had to click, drag the mouse down, and unclick to select. For instance, to save a document, the user would have to hover the cursor over "File," press the mouse button down, drag the mouse down to "Save" and then unclick on "Save."
According to Apple's "Macintosh Human Interface Guidelines" from 1995, it was one of the few times that a selection was made by pressing a button and lifting a finger off the mouse rather than clicking.
Apple eventually changed its mind with the release of OS 8 in 1997, and Mac menus began to function like those in Windows. With last year's release of OS X Lion, Apple even did away with the menu entirely.
7. Natural-style scrolling

If you thought Apple's stubbornness was abating, the company released a fresh one last year: Natural scrolling.
In an attempt to make its new Mac OS X Lion software feel more like its popular iOS software that powers the iPad and the iPhone, Apple changed the default direction that users scroll on Mac trackpads.
Instead of scrolling the way we've learned to for years on a mouse: scroll down to drag the page down, scroll up to drag the page up, natural scrolling acts like the iPad or iPhone: scroll up to drag the page down, and scroll down to drag the page up.
Users can change that setting if they feel like their world has been turned upside-down.

A court filing was unveiled recently including an email which late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs personally sent to former Google chief Eric Schmidt to stop his recruiting department from poaching Apple engineers. The email from March of 2007 specifically asked Google to put a stop to its active recruitment of an unnamed Apple engineer and alluded to stop worker poaching in general according to a report from Reuters.
The email surfaced in a court filing for a proposed class action suit brought by five software engineers against Apple, Google, Adobe, Intel, Intuit, and Pixar. The suit accuses the companies of conspiring to keep employee compensation low by eliminating competition for skilled labor.

Jobs emailed Schmidt in March 2007 about an attempt to recruit an Apple engineer writing, "I would be very pleased if your recruiting department would stop doing this."

Schmidt forwarded Job's email on saying, "Can you get this stopped and let me know why this is happening?" Schmidt wrote.

Google's staffing director responded that the employee who tried to recruit the Apple engineer "will be terminated within the hour", adding "please extend my apologies as appropriate to Steve Jobs."

The companies named in the suit tried to have it dismissed by arguing that they engaged in bilateral anti-poaching deals to protect collaboration; however, U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh said the civil lawsuit will proceed.

Polarbit has announced via Twitter that their new Reckless Racing 2 game will be arriving on iOS devices on February 2nd. The sequel to Reckless Racing is hoped to bring with it a full single-player campaign with new cars, more challenging tracks, better graphics, with improvements in the car models, together with customised cars.

Developers Polarbit were hoping to launch the new Reckless Racing 2 game before the end of last year, on both the Apple iTunes App Store and the Android Market. However now after a short delay the new racing game for smartphones and tablets is set to arrive next week. Watch the video after the jump for a teaser on what you can expect from the new game when it arrives.
Polarbit has also suggested that the new game mode will also be launching in the new Reckless Racing 2 game. But is kept all details relating to it under wraps until the game’s release. The sequel is also expected to include some crazy micro machines and will allow you to drive like a maniac around the new tracks.

The letter came after a personal visit from Gates where the two "spent literally hours reminiscing and talking about the future."
With Jobs' death imminent, Gates wrote to him. "I told Steve about how he should feel great about what he had done and the company he had built. I wrote about his kids, whom I had got to know." The letter wasn't conciliatory, says Gates. "There was no peace to make. We were not at war. We made great products, and competition was always a positive thing. There was no [cause for] forgiveness."
Following the death of Steve Jobs, Gates received a call from his wife Laurene. "She said; 'Look, this biography really doesn't paint a picture of the mutual respect you had.' And she said he'd appreciated my letter and kept it by his bed."
Gates notes that while the two were competitors they both respected each other's accomplishments.
"Steve was an incredible genius who contributed immensely to the field I was in. We had periods, like the early Macintosh, when we had more people working on it than they did. And then we were competitors. The personal computers I worked on had a vastly higher [market] share than Apple until really the last five or six years, where Steve's very good work on the Mac and on iPhones and iPads did extremely well. It's quite an achievement, and we enjoyed each [other's work]."

The serial number seems to be some random grouping of numbers stamped on the back of your iPhone, however something about it is just digged out by OSX Daily.
OSX Daily has published a guide that breaks down what the dutch all those numbers actually mean. From the serial number owners can tell what week their device was manufactured, the hard drive size, the production year and even the factory and machine ID.
Serial numbers come in the form AABCCDDDEEF which can be read as follows:
AA = Factory and machine ID
B = Year manufactured (simplified to final digit, 2010 is 0, 2011 is 1, etc)
CC = Week of production
DDD = Unique identifier (not the same as UDID)
EE = Color of device
F = Size of storage, S is 16GB and T is 32GB
Older models like the 3GS have a slightly different reference model changing the letters associated with hard drive size etc. The serial numbers for the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 CDMA versions don’t follow this patter either. OSX Daily issued the following list of devices that follow the above format.

Developer Microids and publisher Anuman Interactive have announced that Barbarian - The Death Sword will be hitting the App Store early next month. Barbarian is a modern remake of the classic Commodore 64 title Barbarian - The Ultimate Warrior, also known in the US as simply Death Sword. Released in 1987, the original Barbarian was a one-on-one fighting game pitting buff and brutal warriors against each other.
Despite the fighting genre being in its infancy, Barbarian was critically acclaimed for its competitive gameplay. However, most of its notoriety outside of the gaming world was garnered by its violent nature where you were able to decapitate your opponent in a shower of blood, as well as the scantily clad models featured on its packaging.
The new version of Barbarian looks to be a similar one-on-one fighter, but with visuals that have been crafted in 3D. Check out the promo video below, which features both scantily clad women and violence just like its original inspiration:
One other really cool aspect about Barbarian - The Death Sword that was pointed out in the video is the ability to compete against other players across different platforms. I'm not sure if this extends all the way to the PC and Android platforms, but at the very least you'll be able to play against your buddies no matter if they're on a Mac, iPhone or iPad. Another thing I'd like to find out is if this multiplayer is online or just local. But, it shouldn't be long before we can find out, as Barbarian - The Death Sword is set to launch in the first half of February, and we'll be checking it out when it hits then.

By now you’ve probably heard of AssistantExtensions, it’s an amazing tweak in itself, and will likely garner numerous extensions and plugins to make it even more awesome than it currently is. But did you know that with the help of this tweak you can start creating your own custom conversations with Siri now?
Inside, we’ll show you how to do just that; it’s not difficult, just follow a few easy steps.
Step 1: Install AssistantExtensions on your jailbroken device running Siri.
Step 2: Copy the following template to a text file. On a Mac you can just use TextEdit, or Notepad on Windows. Save the file with the aiml extension. e.g. idb.aiml.

Step 3: SSH to your device, and copy your .aiml file to /Library/AssistantExtensions/aiml/ directory.
Step 4: Invoke Siri and say “Let’s Chat” Siri will then upload the contents of the aiml files contained within that directory into memory. After it finishes loading, you can ask your custom question and get a custom response.
Obviously this is a very rudimentary example for demonstrative purposes. If you want some more complex examples, head over to your /Library/AssistantExtensions/aiml/ directory on your device, and copy one of the other .aiml files to your desktop. This will allow you to see all of the valid tags, and methods to make your Siri conversations even deeper.
AIML stands for Artificial Intelligence Markup Language, an XML compliant language used to converse with software agents like Siri and others. To learn more about it and its various uses, I highly recommend you check out this website.

Big swords and slow-motion make us feel good on the inside, so we're obligated to share this trailer with you. Before you gander at its splendor, here's some context: this is a side-scrolling action RPG from White Whale Games. It's called God of Blades, and in it, users will "assume the role of a nameless spectral king" against a horde of demon dudes. From what we can tell, the action model breaks down to whacking demons with overly large weapons until they fall down. It sounds cool in theory.
No word on release other than "soon," and we're not 100 percent sure what platforms it'll appear on or, hey, even its price. We will keep you updated.

Siri on the iPad 2 is now a reality, courtesy of the iPad 2 untethered jailbreak. It became a lot more compelling with the release of tweaks like SiriToggles, and updates to Hands-Free Control.
We’ve already shown you how to install Siri on the iPhone 4, so we’ll use that tutorial along with some additional key information to help you get Siri running on the iPad 2!
Note: You will need a jailbroken iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 to achieve this. You can learn how to jailbreak your iPad 2 here. You will also need SiriProxy, which I show you how to install using Ubuntu. SiriProxy will work with other operating systems, but I’ve found Ubuntu to be incredibly straight forward and dependable, plus it’s free.
Step 1: Get intimately familiar with our Spire Tutorial, and use it to install Siri Proxy.
Step 2: Install Spire on the iPad 2.
Note: Again, do this at your own risk. This could make your iPad kick into “iPhone mode” which makes your screen look funky, as everything is sized for iPhone. A quick respring should fix this, but you’ve been warned. I had no problems with it, but it’s worth noting.

Download and install iFile from Cydia. Open iFile and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/. Once there tap and open the K.plist file (K93AP.plist, K94AP.plist, etc) with the Property List Viewer.
Tap capabilities, and scroll down until you see iPad. Switch iPad from On to Off and tap Done. Restart your iPad.
Once back up, open Cydia, and install Spire, it will ask you to reboot again.
Once back up, go back into /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/ using iFile. Once there tap and open the K.plist file (K93AP.plist, K94AP.plist, etc) with the Property List Viewer.
Tap capabilities, and scroll down until you see iPad. Switch iPad from Off to On and tap Done and exit iFile.

Step 3: Download an install Dropbox; log in, and download the ca.pem file that was placed there in the initial Siri Proxy Tutorial. (Select it, copy link, paste link in Safari Browser). The Install Profile window should open, select Install, and tap Done.
Step 4: Open iFile and navigate to /etc/. Tap hosts and choose Text Viewer. Tap Edit in the upper-left hand corner, and add the following line:
127.0.0.1 guzzoni.apple.com
Tap Save then tap Done.
Step 5: Open the Settings app and go to General > Siri. Enable Siri.
Step 6: Open the Settings app and under Extensions select Spire. Type the following in the Proxy Host field:
https://guzzoni.apple.com
Step 7: Open iFile and navigate to /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/. Once there tap and open com.apple.assistant.plist
Tap on Accounts > Choose your hex key (this will be a random alphanumeric value) > and add the following three fields utilizing the “+” sign in the bottom right-hand corner, then tap Done:

Ace Host
Assistant Identifier
Speech Identifier

Step 8: Open Settings > Wi-Fi > and Select the right blue arrow corresponding to your Wi-Fi connection. Change the DNS field to the IP address of your Siri Proxy Server. Again, if you need help with this, get familiar with our original Siri Proxy Tutorial.
Step 9: Exit Settings, and test Siri by pressing and holding the Home button. You should also see feedback in the terminal window of your Ubuntu server, just like you did when running Siri Proxy on the iPhone 4S, or iPhone 4.
Step 10: Install some cool plugins.

Back on July 26th of 2010, the US government made the act of jailbreaking electronic devices legal by federal law. This cleared up a lot of the confusion surrounding jailbreaking, and opened the door for folks worried about its legality. However the ruling handed down by the Copyright Office in 2010 is due to expire this year and the EFF is looking to convince the Office to renew the exemption. Otherwise jailbreaking falls back into a murky semi-illegal state giving device manufacturers the power to pursue legal action against jailbreakers at will.

Now the Electronic Frontier Foundation is asking for your help to keep jailbreaking legal.
The EFF writes:

“Smartphones, tablets, and video game consoles are powerful computers with lots of untapped potential. Yet many of these devices are set up to run only software that’s been approved by the manufacturer. Modifying a device to run independent software – known as jailbreaking – is important to programmers, enthusiasts, and users. But jailbreaking creates legal uncertainty. Some device manufacturers claim that jailbreaking violates Section 1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), which carries stiff penalties.”

How You Can Help
The Copyright Office needs to hear from people who depend on the ability to jailbreak to write, use, and/or tinker with independent software (from useful apps to essential security fixes) for smartphones, tablets, and game consoles.
Comments should include:
● Which jailbreaking exemption are you supporting-smartphones/tablets, video game consoles, or both?
● What's your background (i.e., are you a developer, hobbyist, academic, independent researcher, user, etc.)?
● What device do you want to ensure you have the legal authority to jailbreak?
● Please explain why you want to jailbreak this device. What limitations do you face if you aren't able to jailbreak it? Is there software you couldn't run, computing capabilities you wouldn't have, cool things you couldn't do, etc.?
● If you're a developer, did an online application store or console manufacturer reject your app or game? If so, what reasons did they give?
● Is there anything else you want to tell the Copyright Office?
You can use this to submit your comments to the Copyright Office. Where the form says "Comment number(s) of proposed classes of works to which you are responding," enter a "3" if you're writing about game consoles or a "5" if you're writing about smartphones or tablets.
The cutoff for submitting comments is February 10 at 5 PM Eastern Time. Make sure to email a copy of your comment to the EFF at dmca-comments@eff.org so that they know what you're saying.
There is a new way to help
The Electronic Frontier Foundation has started a petition at jailbreakingisnotacrime.org to ensure jailbreaking is kept legal.
The petition at jailbreakingisnotacrime.org will let you add your support to a letter written by Bunnie Huang, author of Hacking the Xbox. The EFF would also like those who can write their own letter to submit their defense of jailbreaking to the Copyright Office. You can find more information about that here.
At the very least we would urge you to add your signature to the petition. There's only 14 days left to sign!

At Apple's Town Hall Meeting yesterday, CEO Tim Cook announced that employees will get $500 off Macs and $250 off iPads starting this June, according to 9to5Mac.
The new discount program will officially kickoff at some point during the month of June. A major caveat is that Apple employees may only utilize this opportunity every three years, and employees must have been working for Apple for at least 90 days. The Mac discount side of the program excludes the Mac mini, which is already close to that $500 of credit. Apple employees currently have a 25% discount on Macs, so in many cases the $500 is a big deal.

It really is amazing what some developers have been able to do in the short period that the iPhone 4S has been jailbroken, and this one is nothing short of spectacular.
Lingual supports over 30 languages, including the following: Arabic, Czech, Danish, German, Estonian, Finnish, French, Dutch, Greek, Hebrew, Haitian, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Latvian, Norwegian, polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Russian, Slovak, Slovene, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukranian, Vietnamese, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
After installing it, all you need to do is Say, “translate [phrase] to [language]” or, “what’s [phrase] in [language]“, and let Siri handle the rest.
You will need the AssistantExtensions tweak installed for Lingual to work, as it piggybacks that tweak as one of the first extensions to take advantage of the platform.
CodeThemed, the developers of the tweak, really outdid themselves, and although the tweak isn’t yet perfect, it’s impressive how well it works at this stage. What’s even sweeter is that they plan to release it for free.
Lingual should be available in the near future, and we’ll be sure to update you once it touches down on Cydia.

A Foxconn employee has reportedly told 9to5Mac that the iPhone 5 is being geared up for production.

The site says various sample devices are floating around with slight differences between them.

What They Have in Common
● 4+ inch display (made by LG on at least one of them)
● No teardrop-shaped devices as were rumored in the lead up to the iPhone 4S. Samples so far have been symmetrical in thickness. Also longer/wider.
● None of the sample devices have the iPhone 4/4S form factor
● None of the devices are final versions

Given that the iPhone 4S production didn't start until late Spring last year, if production is starting now it's likely that the iPhone 5 would be released by summer.

The site notes that this same source correctly indicated that the iPhone 4S would not launch last summer.

Geohot, the popular hacker made famous for contributions to the iPhone community and for hacking the Sony Playstation, has quit his job at Facebook, according to BusinessInsider.

The hacker was spotted competing in a hackathon at Backplane, a startup funded by Lady Gaga.

During the hackathon, I got to work with him as he built an app that allows you to see where your Facebook friends are on a map. Aviv Ovadya, a Quora engineer, was also on the team. Ovadya focused on the front end mapping part of the program. Hotz was focused on getting the API info and programming that into location data.

His entry didn't win, it lost out to a group of high school students.

Geohot hasn't been on the iPhone scene since the release of a bootrom exploit called limera1n for the iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, and iPod Touch 4G. A bootrom exploit still hasn't been discovered for the iPhone 4S or iPad 2.

Rumors are very much part of the Apple culture, and nothing garners more speculation than the iPhone. We’re only a few months into the life cycle of the iPhone 4S, but we are already in the realms of both the sublime and the ridiculous when it comes to rumors for what will become of the iPhone 5.

The biggest rumor that just will not die is one that suggests the next generation iPhone will come with a new, larger screen. With a 4-inch part being rumored strongly, a new analyst has joined the discussion, although they are apparently unwilling to share who their sources are.
Pinch of salt in hand with this one then…
Susquehanna Financial analyst Chris Caso says the next iPhone will indeed be released with a larger screen than any of the prior iPhones, with 4-inches reportedly the sweet spot. With so many Android smartphone makers plumping for bigger and bigger screens on a monthly basis, it would make a modicum of sense for Apple to increase the size of its own model’s screen, though we still aren’t convinced.
We see similar rumors each time an iPhone is released, and so far they have been wide of the mark. While that may not be proof in itself that the 4-inch rumors are wrong, it does detract from their impact somewhat.
The news that a new analyst has thrown is hat into the ring does not surprise us either, with everyone apparently an expert in what Apple will or will not do with its iPhone these days. Our bold bid? It’ll have an old style extendable antenna as well as big rubber buttons on its face.

By now, most of you have heard Steve Jobs’ infamous “war on Android” quote from his recently-released biography. It goes something like, “I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this.”

He wasn’t kidding. The latest estimates suggest that Apple’s litigation fees its incurred in its ongoing legal battles with Android manufacturers add up to more than $100 million dollars. And the war is far from over…
Newsweek contributor Dan Lyons reported the staggering number this morning on his personal blog, citing a person familiar with the situation:
“But a person close to the situation tells me there’s a rumor going around among the lawyers that Apple spent $100 million just on its first set of claims against HTC. Who knows if it’s true, but if so, Apple didn’t get a lot for its money.”
For the most part, Lyons is correct. Although Apple has won a number of court victories over the past two years, including multiple injunctions against Samsung in Europe and Australia, they’ve yielded little results in the grand scheme of things.
As expensive as lawyers are individually, it’s not hard to imagine that Apple’s crack team of litigators cost a fortune. And if its efforts against HTC are running in the neighborhood of $100 million dollars, you have to wonder what Apple has spent on its entire endeavor.
Has it been worth it?
